Finding Happiness…It Is Connected to Your Choices

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product. Eleanor RooseveltElder Dallin H. Oaks warned, “There is no happiness in alcohol or drugs, only enslavement. There is no happiness in violence, only pain and sorrow. There is no happiness in sexual relations and physical familiarities outside the bonds of marriage, only degradation and increased momentum along the way to spiritual death.” The same could be said of any type of sin.

My intent today with today’s post on Happiness is not to include a lecture or a condemnation but to provide you with understanding.

During my near-death experience, I saw a war or great confrontation. What I witnessed was those who sided with God fighting or confronting those who were following Satan. So…for the record…Satan is real. As I saw that great confrontation, it was clear that God would be the victor in the end. However, it was also clear that Satan was not going to slip into oblivion.

So now we have this thing we call life and although this world was created for us to have this life experience on, Satan is still here. I am a witness to that fact through my near-death experience and through mortal experiences that I have had.

Satan works hard to make God’s children think that their choices don’t matter.

I believe that we all have an inherent desire to be happy. Yet, it seems all too easy for many of God’s children to believe Satan’s lies and believe that happiness is found in cheap thrills, short-lived passion, and other misguided endeavors.

True happiness comes from being free of addiction, free of internal torment, and being in unison with our Father in Heaven. True happiness comes from feeling love and peace within and being able to share that love and peace with others.

As we start a new week, I hope you will contemplate on the final installment of the article by Jeffrey R. Holland entitled the Gospel Path to Happiness. Happiness is there for the taking – all we have to do is to make the right choices and have the right understanding and attitude. Happiness is a wonderful place to find yourself – I hope you will start choosing happiness in your life today if you haven’t already!

Reject Transgression

I ask you to reject transgression in order to live consistent with the nature of God, which is the nature of true happiness. I encourage you and applaud you in your efforts to “pursue the path that leads to it.” You can’t find it any other way.

My testimony is that God, the Eternal Father in Heaven, is always encouraging and applauding your pursuit even more lovingly than I. I testify that He wants you to be happy, to have true joy. I testify of the Atonement of His Only Begotten Son, which provides the right path and, if necessary, a new start on it, a second chance, a change in our nature if necessary.

I pray that you will know that Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life” and that no one comes to true happiness except by Him. I pray that someday, sometime, somewhere you will receive every righteous desire of your heart as you live the gospel of Jesus Christ, thus living “after the manner” that leads to those blessings.
